Arts & Sciences Adds Award-Winning Director Torben Kjelstrup
Award-winning director Torben Kjelstrup has signed with Arts & Sciences for representation in the UK. Kjelstrup works globally, bringing an architect's eye and understated humor to branded films, commercials, and music videos.
Noted for telling aspirational stories that center around ordinary people in a heightened reality, Torben Kjelstrup's work showcases his love of the craft. Through technical proficiency, utilizing action sequences, VFX, and ambitious shoots, Torben ignites everyday scenarios with exhilaration, levity, and joy.
Torben has directed campaigns for Samsung, Mercedes, LEGO, 3M, PlayStation, Nespresso, Dockers, and more on the branded side. He's also worked on music videos for Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) and multiple videos for the Colombian group Bomba Estereo. His collaboration with the band on the video for "Soy Yo," which Torben both wrote and directed, launched him onto the international scene, earning him a nomination at the Latin Grammys and winning a Cannes Lion. The video currently has over 160 million views on YouTube.
Born and raised in the Danish countryside, Torben began his career as an architect before pivoting to filmmaking. He brings his sharp eye for aesthetics, design, and innovative use of space from the drafting table to his role behind the camera. Alongside joining Arts & Sciences' roster for representation in the UK, Torben is repped by Furlined in the US, OPC Canada, and Tony Petersen Film, Immigrant, and Big Productions across the European territories. He is based in Los Angeles and Copenhagen.
“If there ever was a match made in heaven, this must be it,” says Torben. “As a fan of visual storytelling and fun narratives, Arts & Sciences are hard to ignore, and I am beyond excited to finally join forces with the team! The UK is close to my heart (and home) and I believe that A&S and I together can offer an exciting new flavor.”
On signing Kjelstrup, James Bland, Executive Producer and Partner at Arts & Sciences London, says, "Arts & Sciences has a mission to pursue the wild and culturally relevant tasks of our time with originality, positivity and big-heartedness. Torben's creative output is all of those things. We're thrilled to have him on board and can't wait to create new work together."
