Matt Lenski And Arts & Intelligence Imagine “The Last Commercial”

“I made a film about AI replacing commercial production, using AI, then spent months directing actors, humans, and deciding whether a make-believe algae cube was reading properly on camera.” - Director, Matt Lenski

Arts & Sciences director Matt Lenski collaborates with Arts & Intelligence to create a film that imagines a dystopian future where human ingenuity and creativity are eliminated in the world of commercials. Aptly titled “The Last Commercial,” this satirical film is as meta as it is hilarious and uncomfortably true. Turns out, using AI to underline the importance of reality and human artistry only makes the point more salient.

You can’t explain it; you just have to see it. Sweat, blink, get severe concussions, and buy an algae cube or two if you want to eat that.

Matt digs into the film’s origins and the ironic process behind it—using real actors, generated imagery and characters, and black-and-white footage to give this hybrid production a historical feel—as part of shots’ Reality Focus this month. As Matt puts it, “Satire is useful because you can smuggle an uncomfortable conversation in by wearing a stupid hat.”

It’s an unskippable interview, read it in shots..
